You must be committed and have a keen interest in horticulture. Horticultural workers are involved in the large-scale cultivation of plants. Work may involve
producing and selling plants for either food or ornamental purposes, producing plants for sale to the public along with related products such as tools and
garden furniture, maintaining areas such as parks and public and botanic gardens.

As a landscape worker, you will do physically demanding work, often on your own, and will need to learn to handle pesticides and equipment safely and effectively. You will also have to interpret plans accurately and deal tactfully with clients.

How long is the course?

Up to 16 months years for the full Apprenticeship framework and a further 16 months for an Advanced Apprenticeship framework.

How will I know how I am doing?

You will be required to gather evidence from your work activities to demonstrate that you have become competent in a range of skills. An assessor will also observe you in the workplace.

Can I start an Apprenticeship before gaining a work placement?

HorticultureApprenticeshipsYes, if you are not employed we can offer training at our centre in Stevenage for you to learn the underpinning practical knowledge and provide you with support to find a suitable work placement so that you can get the work experience required.

How will this help me in the future?

Job opportunities may include Greenkeeper, Landscape Gardener, Garden Centre/Nursery Worker or Grounds Maintenance Worker.
