Carpentry and Joinery

Carpentry and JoineryIs an Apprenticeship the career path for you?

  • Are you aged 16-24?
  • Are you self-motivated and enthusiastic? Are you willing to learn?
  • Are you hard working and dedicated? Do you enjoy being part of a team?
  • Are you creative and enjoy working with your hands?

Site Joinery will equip you with essential skills for the construction industry.

You will learn how to use specialised woodworking tools and develop skills that range from cutting floorboards and roof trusses to expertly crafted windows and doors.

Bench Joinery gives you the skills to create staircases, windows and fitted furniture. Working with other bench joiners and skilled craftspeople, you are usually based in a workshop, sometimes travelling to construction sites.

Core units for both cover:

  • Workplace safety
  • Efficient work practices
  • Moving & handling
Optional units for Site Joinery and Bench Joinery allow anIndividual Learning Plan to be specifically designed to suit both employer and apprentice requirements.

Qualifications you will gain

  • Free trainingAn Intermediate Construction Award
  • NVQ Level 2
  • Key Skills Certificate at Level 1 in Communication and Application of Number
  • Health and safety test – to enable you to apply for a CSCS card

Why choose an Apprenticeship?

Allows you to learn, work, earn and get qualified all atthe same time

How long is the course?

Up to 16 months for the full Apprenticeship framework and a further 16 months for an Advanced Apprenticeship framework.

How will I know how I am doing?

You will be required to gather evidence from your work activities to demonstrate that you have become competent in a range of skills. An assessor will also visit you to observe you in the workplace.

Can I start an Apprenticeship before gaining a work placement?

carpentryYes, if you are not employed we can offer training at our centres in Stevenage or Luton for you to learn the underpinning practical knowledge and provide you with
support to find a suitable work placement so that you can get the work experience required.

How will this help me in the future?

There are a range of career opportunities you could follow including site management, estimating and surveying as well as specialising in shop fitting,
exhibition work or form work. You could even work overseas or start your own business.

*Payment for training available for those eligible for an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)
